The terrible crime rate in California affects everyone, not just the rich and famous.
The Golden State’s wealthiest people have been robbed, stolen from, and even killed. These people include Hollywood stars, tech moguls, lawmakers, and more. But the leaders of the state keep saying that the crime problem isn’t that bad.
The murder of “General Hospital” star Johnny Wactor was the most recent high-profile crime in California to make national news. He was shot and killed by a thief who was trying to steal his car’s catalytic converter, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said. Police say the three people they think are involved in his death are still on the run.
A contributor to Fox News and former D.C. homicide officer named Ted Williams told Fox News Digital that Wactor’s death was an easy murder.
“He was killed because some thugs wanted to steal his car’s catalytic converter.” Williams said, “Wactor was hurt because he was in the right place at the wrong time.”
Wactor’s pointless killing is the latest case of a wealthy or famous person being hurt by the state’s crime problem.
A tech worker named Bob Lee was stabbed to death in San Francisco, California, in April 2023. Lee was the founder of Cash App and the former chief technology officer of Square.
The eldest daughter of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Kyle Richards, Farrah Aldjufrie, had her home broken into last month.
One time, her stepfather, Mauricio Umansky, told Fox News Digital that she was lucky not to be home when the break-in happened and that she was fine. West Hollywood Sheriff’s Department said the thieves broke into the house and took jewelry and other personal things.
The daughter of Stewart Butterfield, a tech billionaire from San Francisco and co-founder of Slack, was taken hostage earlier this month. Mint Butterfield, his daughter, was found safe and sound. The suspect was caught in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, which is known for having a lot of crime and is not safe for kids.
Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, has had her home broken into twice, once in 2022 and again last month.
“The bad news is that crime is going up in the United States.” And California, especially the L.A. area, is a haven for criminals. Also, I want to say that all crime is local. “The mayor, the police, the prosecutors, and the judges will have to do something about it,” Williams said.
Williams also said that the bigger problem is that there aren’t enough police cops.
“Crime will keep going up because there aren’t enough police officers out there.” Williams said, “One thing that Los Angeles and other cities in this country are going to have to do is hire more police officers to patrol the streets of their cities, especially Los Angeles.”
Williams went on to say that most of the attacks on celebrities that have happened in Los Angeles are because thieves are after expensive things like catalytic converters.
“Of course, there are a lot of famous people and movie stars who live in Los Angeles once you look there.” These expensive cars are what they drive because of that. Catalytic converters are in these expensive cars. It is very useful to have these catalytic converters. For this reason, thieves are out here taking the catalytic converters from these pricey cars, Williams said.
Williams also said that criminals who should still be in jail are back on the streets, which is another thing that makes California’s big towns so dangerous.
It’s now true that Johnny Wactor was one of many people who should not have died. But if you look at all the crime, especially violent crime, that happens in these different neighborhoods, not just in Los Angeles but all over the country, you’ll notice one thing: there are a lot of people who shouldn’t be out on the streets committing these crimes. “And as I’ve already said, there aren’t enough police officers in these communities, which makes it easy for criminals to come and do bad things,” Williams said.
Williams wasn’t sure that things would get better in the future when asked if the rise in violent crimes would change anything.
“Unfortunately, I don’t think crime will go down in these areas any time soon.” There will be more crime. It’s also too bad that there aren’t enough police officers in the areas. Since there aren’t enough police officers, Williams said, “You can expect crime to keep going up in all of these neighborhoods.”
