Over 430,000 residents in Pennsylvania receive assistance through the income and property tax rebate program.
The Pennsylvania government has recently expanded the program for the first time in 17 years.
This year, the program has been extended to include an additional 175,000 renters and homeowners in the state.
The initiative primarily targets individuals aged 65 and above, widows aged 50 and above, and individuals with disabilities aged 18 and above.
In prior years, the income threshold stood at $15,000 for renters and $35,000 for homeowners.
However, the government has increased these limits for the year 2024, with the new income cap set at $45,000 for both renter and homeowner categories.
Property Tax Rebate Amounts
Up until 2023, the program provided reimbursements of up to $650.
However, this year, the maximum amount has been increased to $1,000, contingent on the beneficiary’s income and place of residence.
Individuals with annual incomes below $8,000 are eligible for the full $1,000 refund.
Those with incomes ranging from $8,001 to $15,000 will receive a $770 rebate, while those earning between $15,001 and $18,000 annually will be entitled to a $460 refund.
Beneficiaries falling within the income range of $18,001 to $45,000 per year will receive a $380 rebate.
Homeowners in Philadelphia, Scranton, and Pittsburgh, with annual incomes of $30,000 or less and property taxes exceeding 15% of their income, will receive an additional 50% on their refund.
This additional benefit translates to an extra $190 to $500.
