Texas Governor “Creates Chaos”: Over 100 Migrants Fly to Chicago
Chicago, Illinois – Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sent a private plane carrying approximately 100 migrants to O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois, creating chaos in the city. The plane was chartered by the Texas Department of Emergency Management and arrived on Tuesday night. The migrants were dropped off at Signature Flight, a network that supports private aviation, and the flight originated from El Paso, Texas.
This move by Governor Abbott has been criticized by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who called it a “political attack in the humanitarian crisis”. More than 26,000 migrants have arrived in Chicago over the past year by bus and plane, with about 14,000 currently in shelters. Johnson has accused Abbott of “placing families on buses without shoes, cold, wet, tired, hungry, afraid, traumatized”.
Abbott’s office has taken responsibility for sending the plane of migrants into O’Hare, assigning blame to Mayor Johnson and the Biden Administration. Abbott’s office also shared a video of migrants boarding the plane. “Because Mayor Johnson is failing to live up to his city’s ‘Welcoming City’ ordinance by targeting migrant buses from Texas, we are expanding our operation to include flights to Chicago, like the Biden Administration has been doing across the country,” the statement from Abbott’s office reads.
