Samsung’s highly-anticipated Galaxy S24 series is just days away from its official launch, and recent leaks, notably from Evan Blass, unveil a plethora of new features along with an enhanced commitment to updates from Samsung.
The leaked marketing images, likely intended for retail use, highlight AI-focused advancements, such as the previously revealed “Live Translate” for phone calls, AI-assisted night zoom, and an AI-powered “Note Assist” feature within Samsung’s Notes app.
The specifications are also detailed, showcasing a 6.8-inch flat QHD+ display on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, a 6.7-inch QHD+ display on the S24+, and a 6.2-inch FHD+ display on the S24, all boasting a brightness of 2,600 nits.
Notably, the S24 and S24+ feature 50MP primary cameras, while the S24 Ultra stands out with an impressive 200MP main camera. Additionally, the former two models sport aluminum builds, whereas the Ultra variant comes in a titanium construction.
The two tidbits that are particularly new start with “Circle to Search,” a new Google-powered feature.
“Circle to Search” is described saying:
Search any image, video, or text on your screen. Circle, highlight, scribble, or tap to pinpoint what you’re curious about, no screenshots necessary.
While details remain unclear from the leaks alone, this appears to be a new iteration of Google Lens, potentially integrated with the S Pen.
The collaboration with Google is notable, especially as Assistant with Bard is anticipated to debut on the Galaxy S24 series.
Galaxy S24’s Pioneering Software Support and AI Features
In a move echoing Google’s strategy, Samsung is poised to provide an extended support period for the Galaxy S24 series, committing to 7 years of Android updates.
This contrasts with the current support for recent flagships, which includes 4 years of major Android updates and 5 years of security patches. The alignment with Google’s approach, as seen with the Pixel 8, reflects Samsung’s dedication to prolonged software support, a positive development for users.
Furthermore, the report indicates that Galaxy AI features are “free of charge” through 2025, hinting at a potential shift to a subscription model for these features afterward, though specific details remain scarce.
Samsung’s official launch of the Galaxy S24 series is scheduled for January 17, with reservations already open, offering a $50 exclusive credit for those who choose to pre-order.
