In Illinois, the candidacy of President Joe Biden is encountering challenges, as part of a broader trend where certain voters are attempting to remove various presidential candidates from the primary ballot.
The deadline for submitting objections to the Illinois State Board of Elections was last Friday, during which objections were raised against both Biden and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.
Former President Donald Trump’s candidacy had also been challenged earlier this month.
Biden, the Democratic frontrunner, faced a total of three objections last week.
Individuals such as Shane Bouvet, Timothy Conrad, former US Senate candidate Peggy Hubbard, and Terry Newsome contend that Biden is ineligible for public office due to allegations of supporting foreign enemies.
Biden and Trump: 14th Amendment Challenges
The objection raised against Biden, along with the increasing challenges nationwide against Trump, revolves around Section 3 of the 14th Amendment in the US Constitution, albeit on distinct legal grounds.
This amendment, originating from the post-Civil War era, has not previously been invoked to disqualify presidential candidates from the ballot until the current year.
In Trump’s Illinois case, objectors argue that the Republican played a role in inciting the US Capitol insurrection on January 6, 2021, warranting his exclusion from the 2024 candidacy.
He has faced removal from the ballot in Colorado and Maine on these grounds but received favorable rulings in California, Michigan, Minnesota, and Oregon.
The US Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments regarding an appeal of the Colorado decision on February 8.
Objectors: Biden Aided Enemies
Concerning Biden’s case, objectors allege that he provided “aid or comfort to the enemies” throughout his tenures as a US senator, vice president, and president.
In their extensive 177-page submission shared with The State Journal-Register, the objectors identify China, Iran, the Sinaloa Cartel, and MS-13 as foreign enemies and elaborate on instances where they claim Biden has assisted them.
The objectors contend that Biden, through various actions such as neglecting to enforce US laws, permitting illegal entry of enemy agents, including numerous military-aged men, and relinquishing US assets to adversaries, has provided assistance and comfort to enemies of the Constitution and the United States.
