Sources Say That Gilgo Beach Police Have Linked Another Victim to Accused Serial Killer Rex Heuermann
According to sources speaking to Fox News Digital, police on Long Island, New York, have tied a fifth alleged victim to Rex Heuermann. Heuermann is thought to be the Gilgo Beach serial killer who was charged last year with killing four women and leaving their bodies on a remote highway more than ten years ago.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office wouldn’t say anything, but they did say that Heuermann will be back in court Thursday morning for a meeting that wasn’t planned ahead of time.
According to the local daily Newsday, unnamed sources say that the suspected serial killer has already been charged with unknown crimes after new information came to light in the case.
In April, evidence was found in Manorville by a task team made up of police K-9s from Suffolk County, the NYPD, and New York State. This was a month before investigators went back to Heuermann’s house in May for a second search warrant.
In July 2023, they arrested Heuermann outside of his architecture company in Manhattan and searched his home in Massapequa Park for almost two weeks. His house is only 20 minutes from where the bodies of Melissa Barthelemy, 24, Megan Waterman, 22, and Amber Costello, 27, were found in 2010. Later, the police added charges for the murder of 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes, whose body was found near the others.
The four women found together are called the Gilgo Four because they were found close to each other and after similar events.
Along Ocean Parkway further east, seven more bodies were found. Most of those deaths are still being looked into.
Two of them belonged to Jessica Taylor and Valerie Mack. Their bodies were cut up and dumped in different places.
In 2000 and 2003, police found parts of their bodies in Manorville. More body parts of both victims were found close to the Gilgo victims.
Another former NYPD inspector who has been watching the case for years is Paul Mauro. He said that the search in Manorville probably found DNA evidence that police wanted to compare to something at Heuermann’s house.
As part of the Gilgo Four case, Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.
He is being held at the Suffolk County Jail in Riverhead, New York, without bail.
The case hasn’t been tried yet.
Shannan Gilbert, 24, went missing from Oak Beach around 5 a.m. on May 1, 2010, and police found 11 sets of remains spread out over several miles of brush next to Ocean Parkway.
She called 911 out of fear and begged neighbors for help before running off into the water.
In 2020, police said they thought she had died in an accident, which is something her family’s lawyer has been against.
Police said she had a mental illness and was known to use drugs that made her feel lost.
The family hired Dr. Michael Baden, a famous forensic pathologist who used to be the top medical examiner of New York City. There’s “insufficient information to determine a definite cause of death, but the autopsy findings are consistent with homicidal strangulation.”
Some of her throat’s bones were missing, but the ones next to them had “a roughness at the margins.” He also didn’t find any drugs on her.
