How to Activate Stolen Device Protection?
To activate the Stolen Device Protection feature, users must initiate the update to iOS 17.3, navigate to the Face ID & Passcode section within the device settings, and proceed to enable Stolen Device Protection.
The effective utilization of this security measure mandates the prior implementation of two-factor authentication and the activation of the “Find My” feature for the associated Apple ID account.
Notably, prior to the introduction of this update, users had the capability to access sensitive information and execute significant changes on their devices with the sole requirement of a passcode, highlighting the critical need for enhanced security measures provided by the Stolen Device Protection feature.
iOS Update Boosts Biometric Security
Through the implementation of Stolen Device Protection, users are now required to authenticate themselves using biometric data, either through Face ID (facial scan) or Touch ID (fingerprint), in order to access data or execute changes on their devices.
For actions of a more sensitive nature, such as altering an Apple ID password, modifying facial or fingerprint scanning configurations, deactivating Find My, or disabling the Stolen Device Protection feature itself, users are subjected to an additional security protocol.
This involves providing biometric data and undergoing a security delay lasting one hour before re-entering biometric information to execute the desired changes.
It’s important to note that these supplementary security measures are selectively activated when users are outside familiar locations, such as their workplace or home.
The device autonomously learns and stores these recognized locations to ensure a seamless and secure user experience.
