Bryan Brinyark, a Republican attorney, won the vacant Alabama House seat
In a resounding victory during Tuesday’s general election, Bryan Brinyark, a Republican candidate, has secured his position as the representative for District 16 in West Alabama’s state House of Representatives. This triumph follows the departure of Kyle South, the incumbent, who vacated his elected office last year to take on the role of President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, leaving the position open for Brinyark to claim.
Hailing from Tuscaloosa County and an alumnus of Central High, Brinyark navigated last year’s primary and runoff with success, triumphing over two fellow Republicans to clinch the GOP nomination for the upcoming general election. Currently serving as a partner at Brinyark & Frederick, he brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the community.
The uncontested Democratic candidate in the primary, John H. Underwood, faced defeat in the election, unable to secure victory against Brinyark’s strong campaign. With the vacancy left by the incumbent and a spirited campaign, Brinyark’s ascent to the state House of Representatives reflects the electorate’s confidence in his ability to effectively represent District 16.

Notably, in Tuscaloosa County, Brinyark secured an overwhelming majority, garnering over 90 percent of the vote. This landslide victory in a key area underlines the broad appeal and support that Brinyark has cultivated within his community.
As per unofficial results reported by the Secretary of State, Brinyark’s triumph in the election was decisive, securing an impressive 2,370 votes compared to Underwood’s 469 votes.
