On December 6, three people were killed and two more were injured when a 22-year-old driving a stolen car allegedly crashed into two sheriff’s office vehicles and another vehicle in Florida, according to police.
Leosvany Arias Roman, 22, is the suspect, according to a news statement from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). On December 6, at around 10:20 p.m. local time, Roman was driving a Mustang that the Tampa Police Department had reported stolen.
When he parked the car, two HCSO deputies made an effort to take him into custody.
Authorities said that Roman instead ran after crashing the Mustang into the two sheriff’s department vehicles.
This scoundrel didn’t care about other people’s lives. In the department’s statement on the event, HCSO Sheriff Chad Chronister stated, “Our deputies, facing danger, had to jump out of the way of a man they feared would run them over to get away.” “The extra charges he faces will guarantee that the only path he takes in the future ends up in jail.”
Roman crashed into a Florida Highway Patrol car on the highway after he ran away from police when they tried to apprehend him, the FHP said in a statement to PEOPLE. After that, according to FHP, he ran into a Dodge Caravan minivan carrying four people.
According to state troopers, the driver of the caravan was a local, and the three passengers were from Ohio. Although the driver was employed by Uber, the FHP was unable to verify that he was on the job when the collision occurred.
The FHP reports that the driver, 33, and the man from Columbiana, Ohio, 52, perished from their fatal injuries sustained in the collision. The other two passengers, a male, and a woman, ages 24 and 51, were taken to the hospital and given serious injury treatment.
The 51-year-old woman was taken to the hospital the same evening the event happened, and police later stated that she passed away from injuries she had in the mishap.
Roman’s collision partner, a 27-year-old Florida Highway Patrol officer, was treated for minor injuries, according to the authorities.
According to the FHP, Roman is accused of felony murder, vehicular homicide, aggravated fleeing and eluding with intent to kill, driving with a suspended license when intent to kill, and battery on a law enforcement officer.
It’s not immediately apparent if Ramos has hired counsel or made a plea.
The numerous collisions are still being looked at.
