Florida Man Arrested for Child Luring Through World of Warcraft
In a peculiar turn of events, law enforcement authorities successfully located a missing 16-year-old Ohio girl in Dunnellon, Florida, with assistance from the popular online video game World of Warcraft. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) sought the help of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office after discovering that the teenager’s World of Warcraft account was active at a residence in Florida.
The investigation led authorities to the home address of 31-year-old Thomas Ebersole, whose World of Warcraft account was also traced to the same location. Initially denying any knowledge of the missing teenager, Ebersole later admitted to driving to Ohio to meet her and bringing her back to Dunnellon. Ebersole was subsequently arrested on charges of traveling to meet a minor to engage in sexual activity, interfering with child custody, and sheltering an unmarried minor.
According to the sheriff’s office, Ebersole confessed to being in a “romantic relationship” with the teen and revealed plans to conceal her in his Dunnellon residence with the intention of making her his wife. Discord messages provided by Ebersole detailed his illicit plans, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the legal consequences of his actions.
